Product information

Maykestag HSS Subland Drill M8 15 x 8.4mm DIN 8374 RN-Fine 90° Professional M8 HSS subland twist drill designed to produce an 8.4mm clearance hole together with a 15mm 90° screw-head counterbore in a single machining operation. Manufactured to DIN 8374-FEIN with RN-fine geometry, a 118° drill point and STEAMED surface treatment. The Maykestag Code 841 is a precision subland twist drill designed to machine two related diameters during one drilling operation. This M8 version uses an 8.4mm smaller cutting diameter to produce the clearance hole while the 15mm larger cutting stage simultaneously machines the 90° screw-head counterbore. Combining both operations in one tool helps reduce tool changes and maintains accurate concentricity between the clearance hole and the larger recess. What is a subland drill? A subland drill is a multi-diameter twist drill incorporating separate cutting sections on a single tool. It allows a smaller clearance hole and a larger screw-head recess to be produced during the same operation. The Maykestag Code 841 is designed for clearance holes of accuracy class “medium” according to ISO 273 together with simultaneous 90° screw-head counterboring of shapes A and B, accuracy class “medium”, according to DIN 74 Part 1. Product highlights • HSS construction: High-speed steel provides the toughness, cutting performance and wear resistance required for professional drilling applications. • Subland geometry: Produces the clearance hole and larger screw-head recess during one machining operation. • M8 configuration: Combines an 8.4mm clearance-hole diameter with a 15mm larger cutting diameter. • DIN 8374-FEIN: Manufactured to the specified fine-series subland drill standard. • RN-fine geometry: Fine RN cutting geometry developed for controlled drilling and accurate stepped-hole production. • 118° drill point: Conventional drill-point geometry on the smaller cutting section for controlled penetration. • 90° counterboring: Larger cutting stage produces the specified 90° screw-head recess. • Special point shape A: Catalogue-specified special point geometry for the Code 841 range. • STEAMED treatment: Surface-treated finish specified by Maykestag for the Code 841 range. • Straight shank: Precision cylindrical shank for secure holding in suitable drilling and machining equipment. Why Choose Maykestag? Maykestag is an Austrian cutting-tool brand focused on precision-manufactured tools for professional drilling and machining applications. Accurate geometry is particularly important with a subland drill because the smaller drilling section, larger cutting stage and transition between the two must work together to produce a correctly aligned compound hole. The Code 841 range combines HSS construction, DIN 8374-FEIN geometry and accurately controlled stepped diameters in a single tool. By producing both the clearance hole and screw-head recess during one machining operation, the drill can reduce tool changes while helping maintain concentricity and dimensional consistency. Designed for One-Operation Drilling and Counterboring The Code 841 subland drill is designed for applications where a clearance hole and 90° screw-head recess are required concentrically. The smaller cutting diameter enters the workpiece first and produces the clearance hole, followed by the larger cutting stage which machines the screw-head recess. Maykestag specifies that the cutting speed should be governed by the larger diameter, while the feed must be selected to suit the smaller diameter.
